The opportunity

We're looking for a qualified and experienced Principal Building Control Officer to join our Building Act Compliance Team.

As a valued member of our team you'll use your knowledge and experience to provide high level technical, project management and guidance in relation to both the Building Control Authority (BCA) and Territorial Authority (TA) activities.

The role will require you to:

Administer a variety of building related territorial authority activities, that could include:

  • Serving notices to fix (NTF notices) where appropriate, for identified non-compliance issues.
  • Investigation of complaints and determining the need for action and compliance with relevant legislative requirements.
  • Initiating infringement and legal proceedings when required for non-compliance with the Building Act.

Undertaking Building Control Authority (BCA) functions where a more specialised and engaging approach is required. Some of these functions will include:

  • Assessment of historical (old) residential and commercial consents for the issuing of Code Compliance Certificates (CCC).
  • Carrying out investigations involving complex technical issues for weather tightness claims, MBIE determinations and all liability-related claims.

To set you up for success, you'll have

  • 5+ years experience in Building Control.
  • A qualification recognised under the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
  • An established competency assessed under the National Competency Assessment System (preferably both Residential and Commercial).
  • A thorough knowledge of the NZ Building Code and Building Act 2004.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • A proven ability to mentor and coach building control staff.
  • Adaptability to a constantly changing work environment.
  • Sound judgement that demonstrates fair and just outcomes.
  • A current driver's licence.
