Licensing
The Building Officials Institute of New Zealand has its own Licensing Programme to benefit individuals who are officials within the building sector in New Zealand. The Licensing Programme is voluntary and acts as a repository of an individual’s intellectual knowledge and provides an identification of the skills that an official has in the form of an identification card which is modifiable and transportable in terms of one’s career.
It can be issued at the commencement point of a career pathway and modify as qualifications and experience accumulate or are picked up by an established Building Official who can demonstrate the knowledge, ethics and experience that sets them apart within our sector.
The Licensing Programme is a sign of our professionalism both with the Industry and to the public. By its very nature it encourages Continuous Professional Development within our profession, a commitment all too often ignored by other parts of the building industry.
The Licensing Programme signals advancement of one’s professionalism in their chosen field, whether it be as a building inspector or a plumbing and drain-laying inspector or one of the many other specialised fields of vocation. This licensing programme is a vital tool in demonstrating cross –council / trans – organisational competency.
